The story about coconut oil helping the brain comes from a personal experience. Dr. Mary Newport has a reason to believe that ketone body, the body you get when you digest coconut oil, could be an alternative fuel for the brain.
She also says that the coconut oil offers big benefits for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. If this is accurate, we are looking at the best natural health discovery.
The Reason to Believe
As I said earlier, she has a reason to believe that 2tbs. of coconut oil a day helps the brain.
Her husband, Steve, had progressive dementia for five years when he was in his mid-50s. After this, he had an MRI to confirm the clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.
You can find the whole story in her case study:
“Many days, often for several days in a row, he was in a fog; couldn’t find a spoon or remember how to get water out of the refrigerator… One day I would ask if a certain call came that I was expecting and he would say ‘No.’ Two days later he would remember the message from so-and-so from a couple of days earlier and what they said.”
She was closely monitoring the whole situation and noted that her husband is suffering from no short-term memory. However, the information was somewhere hidden in his brain.
Something was telling her that she needs to change the diet and see what happens. Her husband started taking medications to slow the process up, but he quickly became depressed, forgot to cook, lost some weight, use a calculator for the simplest addition, and so on.
But, one thing was coming in as a strange condition. Even though he forgot how to do some simple tasks, he was spending his all day working in the yard or garage. He had a good physical condition.
The oil treatment to prevent the Alzheimer’s disease was on the radar for Dr. Newport. It was all about the use of medium chain triglycerides. They are often discussed as the potential treatment to prevent, not just treat, the Alzheimer’s Disease.
“Ketone bodies may help the brain recover after a loss of oxygen in newborns through adults, may help the heart recover after an acute attack, and may shrink cancerous tumors. Children with drug-resistant epilepsy sometimes respond to an extremely low carbohydrate ketogenic diet.”
The body’s cells could benefit from the ketone bodies and use them as an alternative fuel when it feels a lack of glucose. You can’t find ketone bodies flowing somewhere in the body unless you are starving for a few days. Or, the solution that caught the eye of Dr. Newton, if you set yourself to a very low-carb diet.
Dr. Newport says:
“In Alzheimer’s disease, the neurons in certain areas of the brain are unable to take in glucose due to insulin resistance, and slowly die off… if these cells had access to ketone bodies, they could potentially stay alive and continue to function.”
Since this discovery, she started her husband on a daily dose of coconut oil. 60 days after she was noticing him happy and alert, making jokes, talkative, and the tremor was nowhere to be found. Since then, he was able to concentrate on one task instead of being distracted easily.
She was giving Steve 2 tbs. of coconut oil twice a day.
After a year of the natural treatment, Dr. Newport says that her husband is a new man now. She says that Steve still has difficult times finding some words. But he recognizes all relative and participates in conversations. His facial expressions are more suitable for the moments.
“For now, we are very pleased with where he is at and should coconut oil stop or slow down the progress of his disease it will be worth every drop that he takes.”
What a story.
Don’t forget to share this with all of your friends.
