A relatively new study done by researchers at the Otago Department of Human Nutrition studied the relationship between food consumption and emotions.  The subjects were asked to keep track of the food they consumed in the evening and how they felt the next morning.

It was found that on the days that they consumed more fruits and veggies, the subjects felt happier, more energized, and more tranquil compared to when they consumed processed foods, bread, and starches.

The researchers also noted that those suffering from depression typically show high levels of homocysteine, a non-protein amino-acid which prevents people from dealing with their depression effectively.  Eating foods rich in folate and antioxidants helps lower homocysteine levels and help fight off depression.

The juices below are packed with folate and antioxidants, which makes them ideal tool for combating depression without any side effects.

1. Green Apple Juice

Green apples are loaded with enzymes which positively affect the digestive tract.  Keeping the gut healthy helps relieve symptoms of depression and reduce brain dog. Green apple juice combines the multiple benefits of apples with the antioxidant content of spinach and kale.

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium green apples
  • A bunch of spinach
  • 10-12 big kale leaves
  • 4-6 ribs of celery
  • 1 lemon

 

Instructions:

Peel the lemon and juice all the ingredients. When done, stir the juice and serve chilled.

2. Spinach and Cucumber Juice Drink

Spinach is highly nutritious, containing various vitamins, minerals, and folate.

Ingredients:

  • A bunch of spinach
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 lime with peel
  • 2 green apples

 

Instructions:

Mix all the ingredients and run them through a juicer.

3. Pomegranate And Orange Juice

Pomegranate, which is the foundation of this juice recipe, is loaded with antioxidants.  The bioflavonoids from the citrus fruits enhance the potency of the already high antioxidants content, which makes the juice more than awesome.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe pomegranates
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 lime with peel
  • 1 green apple

 

Instructions:

Mix all the ingredients and run them through your juicer. Serve right away.

4. Red Cabbage Juice

This juice recipe has all the essential ingredients which are potent for healing the digestive tract.  Having a weak digestive tract prevents the healing of depression symptoms. Given that the gut is our “second brain”, keeping it in good shape is the key to improving brain functions and boosting mood.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ head of red cabbage
  • 2 green apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 inch of fresh ginger root
  • 4 carrots

 

Instructions:

Juice the ingredients and serve! Simple as that!
